'Relief' and 'Elevated' are food presentation bowls - centre-pieces for the table. 'Elevated' has an inner bowl that is suspended by a pierced outer structure. It draws the user to look carefully at the piece since the intricate exterior doesn't seem capable of supporting the inner bowl. 'Relief' has a pictorial narrative embossed around the bowl with imagery referencing traditional bone china paintings.     

To achieve the relief detailing in this collection, Maria uses a process that she developed during her Masters at the Royal College of Art (2004-2006).  By 'cutting' through the glaze to reveal the bone china surface beneath an intricate unique pattern is created.
